Welcome! {Week 1}

Hello, and Welcome to Organizing My Life!

If you've found this blog, it's likely from my post on my regular blog "Creating Everyday". I am embarking on a year long quest, to organize my life, studio and home. By organizing my life, I believe I will find greater inner peace, achieve creative freedom, and simplify my life.

My first organization challenge, is massive.

I need to organize my "room". It's my art, sewing, scrapbooking, stamping - anything creative - room.

In it's current state, it could be featured on an episode of Hoarders.  It is that bad.

See for yourself.

At first thought, achieving this task is overwhelming. But, by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable and measurable tasks, I believe I can conquer it. With that in mind, here are the tasks I want to accomplish this week.

  1. Everything needs to be up off of the floor. This means, everything on the floor is being put into the biggest, most available plastic lidded (meaning, I can find the darn lid) container, and stacked up. It's time for the carpet to see the light of day... or night... or the light from the ceiling fan.
  2. My workspace/desks need to be clear. This means that if the items do not have a readily accessible home or spot, they also go into the bins mentioned in item 1.
  3. Each of the permanent (meaning in a fixture) bins, baskets, boxes, and drawers need to be clearly labeled with their contents. This will aid in preparing for next week's tasks.
Check in with me next week to find out how I fared, and what I accomplished this week!

  1. Wow! That's a tall order for week one. I better go out and get some lidded bins - just the stuff on my walk-in closet floor of the sewing room will fill one or two :) Have you considered making a button for this "challenge" so that those proudly following along and attempting their own organization can show some solidarity by posting it on their blogs?

  2. I'm in! I hired a professional organizer earlier last year and she got me about 75% organized and now I'm back to square one again.
Thanks for the challenge and for the company!

  3. Good luck, Heather!
I have little hidden pockets like this around my house... well actually, every closet and cupboard in the house is just shoved full with crap.
My word for the year is action, so I'm going to follow along with you and get all my little messes cleaned up and organized.

    Happy New Year!

  5. I love to organize and will definitely be following your blog in my google reader. Getting more organized is one of my goals for this year. I have a lot of it already accomplished but I know that I need to purge more of my craft items. Thanks for the motivation.

  7. We are organizing one room (that actually means de-junking) each month this year. I'm paralyzed with fear!! The first room is actually a walk-in closet upstairs between two bedrooms. It is literally crammed with stuff. I may be hanging out here a lot!

  9. Heather, I'm behind you all the way! You got this! Just stay determined and focus on what you end result of a super organized crafting room. One that you'll be free to do whatever you want!
    Here's to a new year!

I'm going to take the graphic and place it on my blog! Oh, and I'm a new follower.

  10. I resemble that mess! Today, I'm going to do the exact OPPOSITE of your goal for this week. We have guests coming over, so I'm going to take the mess that is all over the craft desk and guest bed and hide it behind the bed on the floor.

Good luck to you and I'll definitely check in with your weekly challenges!
